JSERRA CATHOLIC HS HOCKEY TEAM SELECTED TO REPRESENT CALIFORNIA
The California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) announced today that it has selected the JSerra Catholic High School hockey team to represent California in the 2010 USA Hockey National High School Tournament. Sponsored by USA Hockey, the tournament will feature varsity teams from across the country who have earned the right to compete, on behalf of their state, for the national title. The JSerra Ice Lions are coached by former Mighty Ducks of Anaheim defenseman David Karpa. Formed two years ago, the Ice Lions were the first high school hockey team in Southern California. “We selected the JSerra Ice Lions as California’s inaugural team based on their rigorous schedule, high-level of play in regional tournaments featuring top U.S. and Canadian teams and most importantly – because of their focus on developing outstanding student/athletes,” said Steve Laing, president of CAHA. “We are honored to represent our state in this tournament,” said JSerra Ice Lions Head Coach David Karpa. “Since the program was founded two years ago, we have been focused on developing athletes who are top students and role models in their community. Being asked to represent California in this prestigious tournament is a unique opportunity to give back to the local hockey community who has supported us in becoming the team we are today.” The 2010 USA Hockey National High School Tournament will be held in Chicago April 14-18.
